What We Do:
Meals
Hot, nutritious meals are provided at the Senior Center daily, Monday - Friday. Meals are prepared by a catering company and are delivered to the Center. Our staff serves the “congregate” meals to approximately 25 individuals at the Center daily. Center volunteers deliver pre-packaged hot meals each weekday to 100 homebound individuals. Meal recipients are asked for a donation of $1.75 for meals.
Activities
The Center provides enriching activities for seniors to participate in. An activity calendar is posted with events for each weekday of the month, Monday - Friday. The Center and the friendships formed become a support system for seniors, especially for those who live alone.
The Outcome:
- Meals served at the Center help provide seniors with healthy, balanced meals.
- Activities at the Center become a vital part of many senior’s lives.
- Homebound persons and the elderly are able to remain at home with the delivered meal support.
- The homebound benefit from having someone look in on them each weekday.
- In 2003 the Senior Center delivered 10,894 meals to homebound residents and 3,710 congregate meals were served at the Center.
Financial Information:
The Senior Center receives about one-third of its budget from St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) which is federally funded by the Older American Assistance Act through the State of Missouri.
Donations are requested from those receiving meals but are not mandatory. These donations go into the operating budget and CCBF must make up the difference. In 2004 the deficit was over $26,000 and supplemental funds were raised from grants, NAP donations from businesses and fund raising events.
